Employee of the Quarter March 2019 Winners

Congratulations to the following March 2019 Employee of the Quarter Winners:

LAC/BKM/Tech Center:   Lisa Hires, LAC

Lisa is the unsung hero of LAC, she does so much for the system, its an understatement.  She recently helped me with issues to my WorkFlows settings, she’s awesome and deserves a little more recognition.

FFB: Danielle White 2 nominations

Danielle is always helpful and friendly to staff and patrons alike. She does an amazing job looking out for us here at FFB as our Wellness champion.

Danielle does an amazing job of being the Fairfield branch’s Wellness Champion. She thinks of creative ideas for Fairfield to participate in and makes very nice posters monthly.  Not only is she a Champion, she’s also the definition of a great employee and coworker!

OXB: Patrick Hayes

Patrick works hard to keep our collection in good standing. If there is a book cataloged incorrectly, Patrick will find it and make sure it is fixed. Patrick pays attention to the smaller details that we often miss. I think Patrick has library ESP.

LPL: Jeff Baker

Jeff has really impressed me this quarter within his position as Teen Librarian. He maintains book clubs at 5 different secondary school locations, navigated Summer Program planning like an expert, and has recently been meeting with the local Junior High Schools to address how we can support their increased literacy initiatives and best meet their student’s changing needs. Throughout his work, Jeff is always willing to help others with their projects, and maintains such a good attitude and sense of humor. Our regular children and teen patrons think the world of Jeff, and so do we.

Congratulations to this quarter’s winners!  Each one will receive their choice of 4 hours of vacation or a $50 gift card

Also congratulations to the following nominees:

Stephanie Cueto Tech Center

Stephanie has stepped in and immediately took over some maker Teen programs, and has been getting great feedback from the patrons and their parents.

Penny Brown LAC 2 nominations

Penny worked diligently to plan and organize our resumption of Search Ohio service this quarter. This involved working with Innovative’s implementation team, reaching out to other Symphony/Search Ohio libraries, and working with SirsiDynix and (the worst part) Systems Dept. She’s done a terrific job and deserves recognition.

While Search Ohio was unavailable, Penny continued working at whatever task she was given. Throughout this time she also persistently did what was needed to bring about the return of Search Ohio. Search Ohio is functional now due largely to Penny’s efforts. Although the current system takes longer to process materials, through Penny’s efforts requests have arrived to patrons as quickly as they can. Even if Penny is not selected for EOM, I want her to know how much patrons (like me) appreciate her efforts in the return of Search Ohio.

John Taggart LAC

John is an amazing human! John has a positive attitude and loving nature. Each day, he brings a little sunshine and joy with the books he delivers. Lane is very fortunate to have John on our team.

Odalis Jimenez FFB 2 nominations

Odalis consistently provides the best service, whether this be at a service desk or while leading a program.  She constantly works to increase her knowledge, skills and abilities.  She provides unique programs and is loved by patrons and staff.  She will soon begin to offer a new Spanish Language Story Time.  I am proud of and impressed by Odalis every day.

Odalis’ Movers and Shakers is raved about constantly by patrons. She brings a wonderful presence to the library, while working with patrons and staff alike. I have never seen a part-time employee juggle as many projects and incentives as successfully as Odalis. She is always looking for what can be done for general room upkeep in Children’s and is always more than willing to lend a helping hand. Odalis is a wonderful role model to work with. Her training, outreach, and education for her new program, Erase una vez: Story Time en Espanol, is a very exciting addition to what the Lane has to offer!

Hannah Spurlock FFB

In a  word, Hannah is dependable. She is a wonderful sounding board, has a can-do attitude and is happy to help co-workers with projects and programs. Hannah is a welcoming presence, no matter where she is stationed in the library. Hannah is also a team player. Her programming and general up-keep/day-to-day work goes above and beyond as she is proactive in looking for solutions and ways to help make improvements. Her work in organizing the Children’s Office is of benefit to everyone.

April Huerta FFB

I’m nominating April Huerta for employee of the quarter. She went above and beyond to help a young patron, that was interested in a field of study that April is familiar with and has some experience in. She gave her advice and made sure she had the right materials to get her started on the right path. The patron was nervous about her direction of study, but April left her with kind words of encouragement, that I’m sure the patron needed to hear to help calm her fears.

Michelle Marcus FFB

Michelle is always upbeat and friendly. Not only does she give great customer service, but she is a morale booster to the Fairfield staff. She is positive, outgoing, and kind. She is an awesome person to work with and a treasure to patrons who need her help at the Fairfield branch of the Lane.

Tracey Jewell FFB

Since coming to the Lane, Tracey has made a wonderful impact. Her programming planning and follow through are wonderful assets to have. I especially like the new ideas and can-do attitude that Tracey adds to the team. I look forward to seeing Tracey’s work and programming now that she is not a newbie anymore 🙂 Tracey has already made such a difference in Children’s!

Tammy Brooks FFB

Tammy is the driving force behind Children’s and all the wonderful happenings on in the department. Tammy is a team player, who can be counted on to look out for everyone while making sure the work is getting done. She is a great person to work with and can even be considered a friend. I have really enjoyed getting to know and work alongside Tammy whenever I am in Children’s. She is a wealth of information and I have learned so much about working in libraries from her!

Missy Thompson FFB

Missy helps the Circ department function effectively in many ways. She’s always thinking of creative ways to stay organized and to help the department run smoothly. She’s always aware of her surroundings and is willing to jump in wherever help is needed. Missy truly is Employee of the Quarter material.

Lauren Paletta FFB

Lauren is the type of person that you want as a coworker. She is there to help and support you at every turn. She goes the extra mile for every patron she helps. Lauren’s generous spirit is evident every day. She deserves to be acknowledged for all that she does.

Connie Van Frank OXB 2 nominations

Connie is constantly on the move either shelving, planning programs, or helping patrons. Her energetic personality is fun to work with. Over the winter Connie was invaluable helping with the English Language Conversation program.

Sarah Gifford and Connie Van Frank have created an exceptional ELL program that is meeting the needs of the international community in Oxford.  Together they have planned interesting and engaging activities for the participants.  They have recruited native speaker volunteers that are helping to create a safe environment for the ELL participants.  One of the bonus features of this program is that the participants are gaining a sense of belonging to the greater Oxford community.  They are connecting with others, making friends and enjoying the social aspect of the program.

Rebecca Evans OXB 2 nominations

Rebecca’s AMAZING OHIO programs have been nothing but AMAZING!  The 17 programs that make up this series provide an interesting, creative and interactive look into the history of our state.  The word is out and attendance numbers continue to grow, grow, grow!  Bravo to Rebecca for the hard work that went into pulling this series together and making it a success.

Rebecca Evans presents the most amazing programs. Her current Amazing Ohio programs have been well attended and thoughtfully planned. Rebecca is always willing help in other departments and offers consistently good customer service regardless of which desk she is assigned to.

Caitlin Campbell OXB

Caitlin does an outstanding job at creating a welcoming environment for our youngest patrons.  She listens to what the community wants to see happen at the library and does her best to make it happen within our abilities.  For example, patrons were requesting toys or activities for children between 7 – 11.  Caitlin listened and came up with the Tinker Table idea.  Now this age group has the option to play with Lego, a marble run, wood planks or magnetic tiles.  It is a huge hit and we have some pretty cool creations made at the Tinker Table.

 Caroline Williams OXB

I have only recently joined the Lane Library staff, but from the beginning Caroline has been both an informative mentor and a welcoming peer. All the OXB staff have been tremendously helpful in helping this starting employee get up to speed, and Caroline has every day made me feel like I belong.

Alice Ahrens OXB

I really appreciate Alice’s dedication towards her job duties. Not even a single DVD, Books on CDs, Children Picture book and more go without getting cleaned when Alice is checking in the materials. That’s the reason the covers are so shiny and clean all the times.

Lisa Lorigan OXB 2 nominations

Lisa is always there to help with whatever needs to be done. She loves helping with all sorts of tasks. Does not matter if it is looking for items on the missing list, or deleting and boxing McNaughtons. She is the first one to volunteer. Thank you Lisa for your constant help.

I only work in Circulation occasionally and am VERY THANKFUL to have Lisa around when I do. She is helpful, eager to share “circulation shortcuts” and understanding when I find myself in a pickle.

Harry Davis OXB

Harry is the glue that keeps our building running! Harry is constantly attending to the little (and sometimes large) problems at OXB. Without his help, we would fall apart. Thank you Harry for all of the hard work you put in so the staff and patrons can enjoy our beautiful facility.

IF anything needs to be fixed, Harry is the person we ALL go to. He has an eye for detail and takes pride in his work and the Oxford Lane Library.

Patrick Hayes OXB

She is committed to making every patron’s experience a positive one.

Debbie’s customer service is excellent. She always goes the above and beyond to get the patrons what they need.

Connie Everhart OXB

The BEST SHELVER around!!! Hands down…Connie is meticulous about her work.

Sara Stapf LPL 2 nominations

Sara is a very hard worker, she is always getting something done or filling her extra time doing the little tasks that keep the library in good shape (shelving DVDs, making scrap paper, stocking displays, etc.) She has a great understanding of Circulation policies and helps other staff with their questions in these areas and also does well assisting patrons with their researching, computer questions, and other assorted reference needs. She is a great definition of what a ‘Floater’ can be– someone who is a great help in all areas!

Alex and Sara worked as a team to help a patron prepare materials for a resume. The patron wanted to re-join the work force after having been retired for 3 years. She was impressed with their patience and politeness and the actual help they gave her. She was so impressed that she sent a hand-written note expressing her thanks and appreciation for all they did. They worked well as a team and made this patron’s day! They just needed to be nominated together for this joint effort.

Amanda Lehman LPL

Amanda consistently provides excellent customer service to patrons of the Cummins Room, works hard to complete Cummins Room requests in an accurate and timely manner, and greatly contributes to Cummins Room projects in progress

 Alex Scales LPL 2 nominations
