Journal-News Ending Saturday Print Paper in May

In the March 5th, 2023, edition of the Journal-News, the publisher announced that they would no longer publish a print edition of the paper beginning May 6th.

As things currently stand, the ePaper edition is available without a login on the journal-news.com website. If you go to login option in the upper right corner of the website (on a desktop at least), ePaper is an option listed in that menu. Back issues are available from June 2020 to the present as of this writing without a login. The current issues and back issues can be downloaded as a PDF by individual pages or the whole paper–though be prepared for larger file sizes if you do the whole issue. There may be a limit to how much you can do per day, but that’s not fully established yet.

There is also a print feature that you might want to experiment with to support patrons who prefer not to read the newspaper on a screen. It is recommended that the Reference Teams at each location collaborate to ensure everyone is on the same page for what this practice will look like.

The Collection Development Department is currently discussing the situation with Brad Spurlock to ensure that our archives contain full coverage going forward. The format might be changing, but our commitment to as complete of an archive as possible has not.

Stay tuned…
