Lisa Hires, March 2018 Employee of the Month

Lisa Hires (Technical Services) is the March 2018 Employee of the Month. Lisa, who has been diligently working on the SirsiDynix migration, received two nominations (and it would have been three if I’d gotten mine in on time):

Lisa has been going to almost all the Sirsi Dynix sessions – all the mapping, putting together our new codes, and most importantly – sharing her information with all of us. She has even modified her schedule so she can fully attend some of the sessions. We’re all hoping for a smooth transition and Lisa is helping to make that happen! (Cathy Johnson, LAC)

As we get ever closer to switching to SirsDynix, Lisa has been attending countless meetings here at LAC. Shes working hard to create solutions to make the transition for Tech Services as easily as possible. She deserves to get some recognition. (Brendan Packert, LAC)

Congratulations, Lisa! I don’t know what we’d do without you, and the same sentiment goes to everyone one else on the migration team.

She receives her choice of  4 extra hours of vacation or a $50 gift card. (Please take the gift card, Lisa!)

Also nominated:

Caroline Williams, Oxford
Caroline goes above and beyond for our patrons. We had a patron that needed for a guitar for a class that evening. Caroline actively pursued getting the only guitar in the building inspected so the patron would be prepared for his class. Caroline is always doing the little things that make a big difference for our patrons!

Laura Donnell, Fairfield
Laura is always willing to help her coworkers. The other day I was at drive-thru at closing. The patron pulls up just before close and has a ton of items to pick up and wants them checked out on her card instead of her son’s card, on which she had reserved the holds. I am flustered and feel like a chicken with my head cut off trying to gather all the items and check them out. Laura just pitches right in and collects the hold slips so we can cancel all the holds. Since it is the end of the day and there is no time to do this she gathers them together, labels the stack, and puts them in her mail box to do in the morning when she comes in. I can’t express how much her calm demeanor and helpful attitude meant to me. She is certainly a team player and deserves employee of the month.

Lucy Hayes, Fairfield
Earlier this month, I had a patron pull me aside to explain to me how impressed she was with the way Lucy helped a patron. The patron needed a LOT of help, and she said that Lucy was beyond patient in assisting him. She said that she’s never seen someone so patient and kind and helpful as Lucy. While she said all staff here are excellent, she wanted to make sure that Lucy was commended for her work.

Laura Barnette, Fairfield
A patron stopped by my office today to tell me about Laura. She said that Laura is fair, knowledgeable, and professional. She said that Laura’s approached her to ask her to lower her voice when she’s talking on her cell phone, but that she also sees Laura speaking to other people – holding everyone to the same standard. She said that she knows when Laura is around that things are going to be safe and kept in control. She also appreciates Laura’s kindness in showing her how to book the study room so that she is empowered to book it when it’s right for her rather than wait for a staff member to do it for her. She said that everyone here is excellent, but she’s been watching Laura for a while and is truly impressed with her.

Wendy Pittman, Hamilton
Wendy is always so pleasant to work with. She is wonderful at supporting her fellow Circulation and Reference Coworkers and quick to jump in and assist with problems or questions. She is GREAT with Patrons- polite and conscientious and provides excellent customer service every time. Her expertise with Spanish has helped many a family feel welcome and empowered to use the library and it’s services. Wendy has creative ideas for displays and library decorations whenever the occasion arises for her input. Her positive attitude and kind smile are always appreciated.

Akiko Urayama, Oxford
Akiko is such a pleasant and wonderful person to be around, which makes working with her amazing! Akiko works part-time and makes every minute of it count. I always see her looking up story-time videos and songs and she practices a lot. She really cares about making her story-time great. She has a great knowledge of children’s books that helps with recommendations. She consistently offers to do all of the pull-lists (even if you tell her you can help!). We’re lucky to have her!

Emily Mays, Hamilton
Emily always arrives to LPL ready to work and with a positive attitude. She does a great job getting her Shelving work done and is always willing to help out with other projects. (Was a great help with inventory and recently assisted with a children’s program) We are very glad to have her as part of the Hamilton Circulation team!
