Mike Busam (BKM) – October 2018 Employee of the Month

Mike Busam (BKM) is the October 2018 Employee of the Month

Mike was nominated one time:

Mike totally volunteered to help me with a gross job here at Lac. We cleaned out the refrigerators, something I was prepared to do myself, but boy, was I ever glad for the help! It took much longer than I thought and without Mike I might still be at it.  Not only that, but Mike frequently checks out titles here which may not have gotten holds. Last week we spotted some books in Spanish that we had received and let a patron know about the titles, put the holds on for her, and moved the titles along the cue! Great customer service!!

Congratulations Mike! He will receive his choice of a $50 gift card or 4 extra hours of vacation.

We had 19 nominations this month!  Also nominated:

Alyson Sizemore
We have been trying to work out a better way to shelve our CD collection that would be easier to use for patrons and staff. Alyson spent hours pulling the entire collection, and reorganized and shelf-read and shelved them all according to the new plan. The collection works fantastically now and I am sure the patrons will love it too!

Rylee DelRio
Rylee spent a good portion of a shift clearing old McNaughtons because our shelves were completely full. This saved me loads of time and the collection looks so much more presentable now! Rylee works hard every shift and you can always tell when she has been on the job because the carts are emptied and the shelves look neat as a pin!

Camille Dainton
We had a Saturday with no shelvers working and the shelves got extremely full. Camille was scheduled on Sunday and shelved all of the adult collection. I don’t know how she got it all finished in 5 hours!

Missy Thompson
Missy has a keen eye for detail which always helps the Circ department work efficiently to assist other staff and patrons .

Mary Carroll
Mary is so patient and kind. She is always willing to come to the rescue when the circ team needs extra help!

Sarah Gifford
Sarah has hit the ground running since she started working at the library. She jumped right in to taking classes for her MLIS degree. Her programs are very well attended…Touch a Truck was a great success, as well as a recent Chess Mates activity. Patrons of all ages are enjoying these programs. Plus she’s fun!

Markeisa Holder
Markeisa saved the day since she quickly remembered how to ring up a Lane bag together with a patron paying fines by credit card. Her co-workers appreciated her quick thinking as did the patron.

Laura Donnell
Laura is a dedicated staff member who is never idle and is a problem solver willing to go the extra mile to provide great customer service.

April Huerta
April designed 3 fantastic options for facepaint for the upcoming Dia de los Muertos program at FFB. She went the extra mile for patrons to have unique creations!

Harry Davis
Harry is always willing to help even on his days off, if necessary, to do anything he can so that things at the library run smoothly as they should. He is friendly and kind and is a pleasure to work with.

Markeisa Holder
Markeisa was my hero the other day. I had a patron who wanted to pay her fees and buy two bookbags. She wanted to pay by credit card. I knew that you could do all of that in one transaction but I hadn’t done it before I couldn’t think how to get the bookbags onto her account. The supervisor was on lunch, and no one else I asked had done it either. Markeisa came up from reference and together we brainstormed and figured it out (I say together but it was really 85 percent Markeisa!) She definately saved the day and deserves to be employee of the month!

Jeff Baker
Jeff does a lot for LPL– travels to book clubs at 5 different schools each month, hosts our own Teen programs, works hard on the Teen Scene preparations for Books by the Banks, always tries his best to help our patrons, forces us to play Fantasy Football games, and always keeps a calm and positive attitude at work. We are very lucky to have Jeff as a staff member and are very appreciative of all the work he does for Lane.

Emily Mays
Even with 8:00 am shifts at work and carrying a full course load for school, Emily has maintained her good work ethic and positive attitude. Emily is always willing to lend a hand to other projects going on in the building and is a great member of the Circulation team.

Cathy Johnson
CJ has an incredible work ethic and team spirit! Her hands have been full as we’re in the middle of high volume, end-of-the year ordering. She rearranged her workflow so she could pitch in with receiving, rolling up her sleeves to help with the unusually large number of new materials arriving each week. CJ is constructive in her suggestions and attitude as we work through Sirsi glitches in acquisitions, and is a genuine pleasure to work with.

Akiko Urayama
Akiko has covered two of my TEEN! programs and did a wonderful job with both, giving me great feedback. When I asked her to cover, she didn’t even hesitate. She is so kind to everyone, patrons and staff included. She is great working with small children in her normal duties, but her willingness to cover my programs shows that she can do anything. She always wants to help if she can and she never makes you feel like you’re burdening her–she shows excitement and happiness that she’s able to help you. So reliable and such a key person on our team.

Wendy Pittman
Wendy always goes above and beyond when it comes to helping patrons and the community. She recently went to Hispanic Heritage Night at Crawford Woods Elementary and had a bilingual story time. Wendy is also always thinking of ways to make things easier for patrons, especially with our drive thru being closed due to the roofing project.

Lucy Hayes
Thank goodness we have Lucy! She steps in to help with programs, cover the desks, and is happy to help with any task that comes up. She’s been a big help to me personally when I was working on magazines for the Sirsi migration. And I know patrons really appreciate the top level of service she always provides.

Sarah Gifford
Sarah is one of those staff members who always goes out of her way to assist both patrons and her fellow staff. She also has a real knack for knowing what the Oxford community wants in terms of programming. It is a pleasure to work with Sarah!
