In case you missed it, we now offer digital magazines via The Ohio Digital Library (OverDrive).
Magazines via The Ohio Digital Library require either the Libby app or using OverDrive Read in a web browser. Offline reading functions the same in OverDrive Read as with eBooks (instructions here). Checkout works the same as for an eBook or eAudio except that a magazine does not count toward the user’s overall checkout limit. All magazines are simultaneous use, which means that there are no wait lists: patrons can have the same title checked out at the same time. This also means patrons can simply check an issue out again if they don’t finish reading by the due date.
We have a special Magazine landing page on The Ohio Digital Library website showcasing the collection by topic, including New, Lifestyle, Cooking & Food, Fashion, Home & Garden, etc. (To date, Cosmopolitan has been the most popular title.) The landing page link is available on Lane’s home page under eMagazines or you can click on Collections on the ODL home page and select Magazines.
Lane is not currently putting collection funds to purchasing magazines, just the usual eBooks and eAudio. We’ll be watching to see how our patrons use what’s currently available before making decisions about this and the future of Zinio.
