March Employee of the Quarter 2023

Congratulations to the following March 2023 Employee of the Quarter winners:

Hamilton:

Trent Hart – 2 nominations
Trent’s fantastic initiative and resourcefulness should be commended. When faced with the challenge of putting up a wall in the Teen Zone at LPL, Trent came up with a plan to relocate a wall from the Quiet Study Room and was able to move it by himself in just a few days. His contribution to the library is invaluable, and he truly deserves recognition

FFB had not 1, not 2, but 3 separate and sometimes concurrent toilet issues last week. Trent came to the rescue off FFB staff and patrons!

Fairfield:

Connor Lewis
Connor has been super helpful with all of my teen programming especially with LGBTeens. His presence helps other teens open up and have a time for laughter and fun. His humor makes anyone smile along with his trusty light up cat, Don Fluffles.

Oxford/Smith:

Alice Ahrens – OXB – 3 nominations
Whether at the Reference Desk or in Circulation or in Smith Library, Alice DOES IT ALL with a friendly smile, positive attitude and professional approach!

Alice is so deserving of this award. She goes above and beyond in all things: helping patrons with ANY issue and making sure patrons leave feeling their problems were resolved, she investigates any weird technological glitches to get things in running order, and making sure all of her coworkers feel respected, liked, safe, and well. She is one of the best people in general, extremely empathetic, and her kindness is infectious.

Alice has done an excellent job covering working in SML, especially while covering shifts for us recently. We greatly appreciate her efforts while working at SML and her constant willingness to help us out.

LAC/BKM/Tech Center:

Lucy Hayes – LAC
Lucy has a zillion things to do in the receiving area and manages them all so well. From finding new lists of popular movie titles to the physical labor of returning all the hardback Baker & Taylor leased books. And with all this going she is always up for new stuff!

Congratulations to this quarter’s winners! Each winner will receive their choice of 4 hours of vacation or a $50 gift card.

Congratulations to the following nominees:

Hamilton

Jeff Baker
Jeff is a hero up on Level 5! The kids in our community are lucky to have him, and so are we. He is always looking for ways to reach even more kids, and it’s admirable.

Michaela Perkins – won June 2022
Michaela is one of the foundations of the Hamilton branch. If it wasn’t for her, we would absolutely fall apart.

Tess Catlin
Tess is another foundation of the Hamilton branch. She is the head of so many programs and resources. We would die without her.

Alex Scales – won March 2022
Alex keeps the library running smoothly. He is always there to assist with any problem that may arise. We all appreciate him so much!

Wendy Pittman
Wendy is a bright light in a storm. She is such an asset to our team! She handles any problem that crosses her path, as well as helping us with any problem that crosses ours.

Jennifer Albinus
Jennifer just got promoted because she rocks that hard. She is a superstar and we all appreciate her so much!

Kenzie Ross
I love working with Kenzie!! She does everything asked of her in a timely fashion, doing what needs to be done at all times.

Tamee Johnson
Tamee, despite her knee issues, does not give up until the hold list is DONE– no matter how long it is. I’ve watched her hike all over the building trying to play detective and find items that have been misshelved. Sometimes the list exceeds 160 items, and she still gets it done.

Robyn Pittenger
Robyn has not stopped shelving for what has seemed like two years. Her goal for each shift is to basically shelve everything. I appreciate her hard work.

Oxford/Smith

Caroline Williams – OXB
Caroline is a friendly face that greets and assists our patrons each day at circulation. She never misses an opportunity at the drive thru to reach out with a tasty treat for our furry patrons. Thanks Caroline for all you do.

Elizabeth Franz – OXB
Liz is wonderful with our patrons. Her patience and aptitude for finding exactly what a patron needs is enviable. She gives us 100% and is an absolute pleasure to work with!

Caitlin Campbell – OXB
Caitlin went above and beyond in planning a successful author visit with Wil Haygood. She arranged the event at the branch and also worked closely with the high school on scheduling a visit for Mr. Haygood to speak with students. Mr. Haygood’s visit was very well organized with great communication. This event was in addition to her children’s services’ duties. Thank you Caitlin for all that you do for patrons of all ages at OXB!

Emily Hicks – Smith
Emily has does a great job working on patron requests and recently contributed research for an article that is being published. In addition to that, she also researched a local War of 1812 veteran which will be included in an exhibit at a national battlefield park in Michigan.

Taylor Maddox – OXB
Taylor Maddox is somewhat new, but already has figured out the ins and outs of the Circulation Department. She is very helpful to patrons and is pleasant to be around.

Naomi Cole – OXB
Naomi Cole likes to stay busy, so she willing volunteers for any extra project in any department. Her knowledge of technical devices has been most helpful to patrons.

Janelle Rainey – OXB
Janelle is a pure joy to work with. She is always upbeat and looks at the positive side of everything. She knows many of the patrons and is always ready to send them in the right direction for whatever they may be searching for.

Fairfield

Hailey Mearns – 3 nominations
Hailey is always very patient and kind; however, I observed a particular instance of her going above and beyond while helping a patron copy of piece of art. The patron needed just the right size to place the drawing in a frame. Hailey helped her get the image just right and even took the copy in back to our staff paper cutter to make sure it was perfect! The patron was very appreciative!

Hailey has been with the Lane library for less than a year but she’s already raised the bar with her tremendous work ethic. She’s always doing her best to help out in every way possible. We are very lucky to have her here at Fairfield.

Hailey is a valuable member of the team. She is always on task and very conscientious! The patrons love her as she is very kind and patient. She is a joy to work with!

April Huerta – won December 2022
April’s dedication to finding new ways to support and engage with teens has been outstanding. Recently, she connected with the nonprofit Period.com and was able to get a large donation of items for the teen self-care station at Fairfield. April also demonstrated her commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion by creating programming for LGBTQIA+ teens. Overall, April’s hard work and commitment to supporting and engaging with teens have made a significant impact and she is deserving of recognition for her efforts.

Peter Bour
Peter is always patient and kind. He exhibits the epitome of customer service and is just always pleasant to be around. He really lifts up the spirits of his co-workers and patrons.

Laura Barnette
Laura is a wealth of knowledge. If she does not know something off the top of her head, she will research it until she has an answer that she can share with co-workers or patrons. Laura deserves a nod for what she’s done for Lane for 30+ years.

Morgan Sackenheim
Morgan is a wonderful coworker. She is always willing to jump in to help. Today I was a at the front desk by myself. Soon there was a deluge of patrons who all wanted help at the same time. I rang the bell to get assistance from the back but no one came (there was only one person dealing with the deluge in the back, unbeknownst to me). Morgan was walking past from Reference to the back. When she realized that there was no one to come help me in the front she turned around and asked “who is next?” That is just Morgan – there whenever you need her (even when she’s not assigned to your department)!

Michelle Marcus – 2 nominations
Michelle is such important part of the FFB Circulation Team. She is very hard working and helpful to patrons and staff. Michelle is also a talented artist, lending her help decorating the sandwich board with all of our program info. Thanks for being awesome, Michelle.

Michelle is so friendly and outgoing with patrons and staff. She really listens to a patron’s request and works to answer their questions and concerns. In addition, Michelle is such a great coworker. She is interested in everyone and always has a smile to share. She brightens up the library!

Emma Darby
Emma is an amazing employee! Her program, Classic Cinema Club, starts soon which is sure to be a huge success! She does such a tremendous job here every day!

Chris Esposito
For the past few months, we have had an elderly patron wanting to come and look at our westerns, but he has not had the strength to walk in himself. Chris has gone above and beyond with helping this patron. Every time he comes in, Chris brings out a wheelchair to his vehicle and pushes him to the western section. Way to make the rest of us look bad, Chris. 🙂

Odalis Jimenez
Odalis has cultivated and maintained so many partnerships for the Fairfield branch! She’s always working on different outreach efforts. She definitely makes FFB a spotlight in our community.

Sarah Hedrick
She’s a fantastic employee, dedicated to helping teens as well as all patrons. She’s wonderful to work with and continues to impress with her kindness. She’s a total icon!!! 🙂

Adam Fisher
Adam has endless patience and continues to excel at assisting patrons on the daily. He never fails to make patrons happy and is consistently willing to help his fellow employee. He has incredible program ideas and is always so creative. He’s a total rock star!

Emma Estridge
Emma has helped out so much with programming from Snacktivities to Hispanic Heritage Festival. She only works part time as a shelver but she is always up for any programs that are in need of help. Super sweet and she is great with the other teens.

Ava Epps
Ava has been super helpful with so much teen programming including LGBTeens. She has helped other teens speak up and laugh during programs. She gives us all a good laugh and basks us in knowledge of her interests including Genshin. She is super sweet and I enjoy having her presence in my teen programs.
