Tips for Working From Home

The staff site is taking a backseat to Gmail at this time. In the interest of not overloading your inboxes further I am going to post less critical resources here. Please continue to look in on the staff website, but anything mission-critical will come via Gmail.

This is a useful article about working from home that SirsiDynix shared:

Note that not everything stated may apply to Lane, but there are some useful tips here. e.g I found this one applying to me:

Don’t fall into a Netflix/YouTube/Twitter/whatever hole. It’s hard for some work-at-home employees to avoid distractions. The best way to keep from binge-watching shows when you should be working is not to start.

Ohio Historic Inventory updated and integrated with public catalog

Brad Spurlock and staff at Hamilton have added all of the .PDFs for Butler County from the Ohio Historic Inventory to the public catalog. There are almost 2500 properties on file. If you haven’t seen these before, I encourage you to review them. You need to be aware of these when a patron is searching for the history of a home. You can search addresses or names of residents, e.g.:

Clicking the link will download a .PDF file.

The former home for these files, http://lanepl.org/ohioweb, is now deprecated.

Staff Gingerbread Houses

The staff at OXB teamed up to create some amazing Gingerbread houses. The public will vote on their favorite. OXB has very creative staff … but Arvind and I already knew that!

Alice’s Adventures in Gingerland was created by Caitlin, Cori, and Cathie. The general consensus is it’s very creative and we loved the tie to literature but it’s just a little creepy.

Snoopy’s Christmas was created by Sarah, David, and Connie. Ahh who doesn’t like Snoopy’s Christmas?

The Nutcracker Sweet was created by Kevin, Sue, Caroline and Anne. Kevin was in charge of the glue gun and was a man with a vision. Very, very impressive on the details.

‘‘Tis the Season to be Reading was created by Rebecca, Connie Van Frank, and Lisa. It’s a gingerbread OXB complete with patrons at the drive thru window getting their books What’s not to love?

Snowy Country Manor was designed by Alice, Debbie, Patrick and Akiko. We all want a house like this one in the woods. Every detail from the thatched roof of bran to the surgery pond is adorable.
